NASA is looking to hire a Planetary Protection Officer to protect our planet from possible extra terrestrial life, and make sure humans venturing into space don’t contaminate other worlds.
The job spec requires “frequent travel”. It comes with an impressive $187,000 (£141,000) a year salary – with benefits.

Following the announcement, a young boy called Jack has applied to the position, and his particularly adorable letter has been shared online, and first picked up by the New Zealand Herald .
Jack, nine, perceives the position as an effective guardian of the galaxy. He wants to protect our planet from aliens and doesn’t think his age is a limitation.
“I may be nine, but I think I would be fit for the job,” he writes. “One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see.
“I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of Shield and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at video games. I am young, so I can learn to think like an alien.”
Sadly for Jack, he’s lacking some technical abilities and the qualifications necessary to be in with a chance of the job. NASA asks applicants to have at least one year’s experience as a civilian government employee and an advanced degree in physical science, engineering or mathematics.
